Carly, Alaina, and Julie Beyar are the Founders of Balanced Beyars Health and the Power of Periodization program. They are three sisters who went from being overactive collegiate soccer players to self-proclaimed “Hormone Hype Girls” and women’s health educators. They are on a mission to get you hyped about predictable periods and living in alignment with the four phases of your cycle. Their ultimate goal is to make it fun for menstruators to cultivate a hormone-happy lifestyle that allows them to feel a deep partnership with their cyclical bodies, 100% of the time.

In this episode, we talk about what it was like to go from lifelong athletes to everyday life, the sisters’ experiences with the pill’s side effects and their transition off, how you can start living in alignment with your cycle, why you should bring your partner into your journey of learning, and so much more!

This episode is brought to you by Nutrisense, a provider of continuous glucose monitors. Visit Nutrisense.io and use my code NICOLE25 for $25 off your first month.

A Nutrisense CGM is an incredible way to monitor your blood sugar levels in real-time and their app helps you see exactly how your diet and lifestyle specifically affect your blood sugar. I tried a Nutrisense CGM this past summer and it was a game-changer. It was amazing to see how my meals and specific foods were affecting me positively or negatively. There was a whole lot of experimentation while using it to see what worked best for me and some foods were real shockers. Now you can get a Nutrisense CGM and take $25 off your first month of service. This includes two CGMs to be used for two weeks each, the app, and a month of free dietitian support. That support is invaluable and the best part of the service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from this episode — and how Fix Your Period can help.

What happens to your hormones when you stop the pill?
When you stop hormonal birth control, your body needs time to reactivate its own hormonal feedback loop. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, and some women experience a 'post-pill syndrome' involving acne, hair loss, irregular cycles, or mood changes as their natural hormones reassert themselves.
What nutrients does hormonal birth control deplete?
Hormonal birth control is associated with depletion of B vitamins (particularly B6, B12, and folate), zinc, magnesium, selenium, and CoQ10. Replenishing these after stopping the pill is an important part of hormonal recovery.
How long does it take for cycles to return after stopping the pill?
Most women see their cycle return within 1–3 months of stopping hormonal contraception. However, some women — particularly those with underlying hormonal imbalances like PMOS (formerly PCOS) or low progesterone — may experience a longer recovery period.
Is there an app to help women coming off birth control?
Yes. Fix Your Period's free Hormone Health Assessment gives you a personalised picture of your current hormonal health. Fix Your Period Premium unlocks Nicole's Birth Control Pill Support protocol, Period Pillars education on what to expect, and Nicole.AI for ongoing guidance.
Can I use Fix Your Period while still on hormonal birth control?
Yes. The cycle tracking and assessment features are available at any stage. Fix Your Period Premium — including the Period Pillars and protocols — is valuable whether you're still on contraception or planning to stop.
