Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from this episode — and how Fix Your Period can help.

What causes period pain?
Period pain (dysmenorrhea) is caused by prostaglandins — inflammatory signalling molecules that trigger uterine contractions. When prostaglandin production is excessive (often due to estrogen dominance and chronic inflammation), contractions become intense, causing the cramping and pain many women experience.
Is period pain normal?
Period pain is common but not normal. Mild discomfort at the start of a period can be physiologically normal, but pain that requires medication, disrupts daily activities, or persists throughout the period indicates an underlying hormonal or structural issue worth addressing.
What is the difference between period pain and pelvic pain?
Period pain is cramping specifically linked to menstruation. Pelvic pain can occur throughout the cycle and may indicate conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis, ovarian cysts, or pelvic floor dysfunction. Persistent pelvic pain — especially if it occurs at non-menstrual times — should be investigated by a healthcare provider.
Is there an app to help with period pain?
Yes. Fix Your Period tracks pain patterns and severity over time. Fix Your Period Premium unlocks Nicole's Pelvic Pain protocol, Period Pillars education on the root causes of cramping, and Nicole.AI for personalised guidance.
Can diet help reduce period pain?
Yes. An anti-inflammatory diet that reduces omega-6 fats (which are precursors to inflammatory prostaglandins) and increases omega-3 fats can meaningfully reduce period pain. Magnesium, vitamin D, and targeted gut support are also key parts of Nicole's approach.
