Katie Bressack is an award-winning holistic health coach who specializes in women’s hormonal health. With her support, the women she counsels prepare their bodies for pregnancy, postpartum, increase energy levels, get their periods back and on track, eat healthier and maintain a balanced mood.

Katie joins me to talk about the fourth trimester, which is the period of time immediately following the birth of a child. We don’t often talk about the reality of postpartum and I think it’s important to shed light on the huge hormonal changes that occur and the very specific needs of a new mother during that period after pregnancy.

In this episode, we talk about what happens to our hormones after delivery, the woefully inadequate care that most women receive after having a baby, how you can set yourself up for success in the postpartum period, the type of support we need during the fourth trimester, and so much more!

Are you overwhelmed by all the different varieties of collagen out there? I was too until I recently found Sparkle Wellness, a family-owned business that spends extra time sourcing the purest and most thoroughly tested ingredients for their collagen products. They have developed a range primarily using the powerful benefits of collagen to improve the look and health of your skin, hair, and nails, as well as restore your joint health and build lean muscle.

I’m currently obsessed with their Muscle Boost Collagen, it’s been a complete game-changer for me. It easily mixes with water and comes in an amazing mixed berry flavor that tastes better than any other collagen powder I’ve ever tried. Try it out and add some Sparkle to your day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from this episode — and how Fix Your Period can help.

What happens to your hormones when you stop the pill?
When you stop hormonal birth control, your body needs time to reactivate its own hormonal feedback loop. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, and some women experience a 'post-pill syndrome' involving acne, hair loss, irregular cycles, or mood changes as their natural hormones reassert themselves.
What nutrients does hormonal birth control deplete?
Hormonal birth control is associated with depletion of B vitamins (particularly B6, B12, and folate), zinc, magnesium, selenium, and CoQ10. Replenishing these after stopping the pill is an important part of hormonal recovery.
How long does it take for cycles to return after stopping the pill?
Most women see their cycle return within 1–3 months of stopping hormonal contraception. However, some women — particularly those with underlying hormonal imbalances like PMOS (formerly PCOS) or low progesterone — may experience a longer recovery period.
Is there an app to help women coming off birth control?
Yes. Fix Your Period's free Hormone Health Assessment gives you a personalised picture of your current hormonal health. Fix Your Period Premium unlocks Nicole's Birth Control Pill Support protocol, Period Pillars education on what to expect, and Nicole.AI for ongoing guidance.
Can I use Fix Your Period while still on hormonal birth control?
Yes. The cycle tracking and assessment features are available at any stage. Fix Your Period Premium — including the Period Pillars and protocols — is valuable whether you're still on contraception or planning to stop.
